Holy Week has always been one of my favorite holidays. It’s sacred; no one dares to send work-related messages and everyone suddenly respects each other’s time to rest and reflect. As the meme goes, “Walang urgent-urgent, magagalit si Jesus.”
Fortunately, Denison’s birthday fell on a Good Friday. We gathered both of our family members to celebrate his day and to finally reveal the gender of our little one.
At first, we only wanted to know the baby’s gender upon my delivery by July, but the urge to find out at an early stage became irresistible. When I had my follow up check up and congenital anomaly scan at 23 weeks (five months) on March 29, I told the ob-gyn sonologist to keep the baby’s gender a secret, to which she obliged and sealed it in an envelope. This would be a great gift to Denison, I thought to myself. 🙂

When we went home from the check up, I handed the envelope to my mother. Apart from the sonologist, of course, only my mother knew about the gender at that time, so she also helped us in procuring two dozen cupcakes for the gender reveal. I suggested having cupcakes so the reveal would be participatory, where we would altogether find out the baby’s gender in one bite. A blue filling will tell that the baby is a boy, while the pink is the opposite.
We only had a week to prepare for everything, which was challenging because most establishments will be closed on his birthday. This meant that we won’t be able to avail the convenience of online orders and deliveries. Thanks to our ever supportive families, we were able to secure all of the reveal cupcakes, birthday cake, props, seafood for our feast, and clothes, among others, in time for our much awaited day! We requested everyone to wear the color of their vote–blue for a boy and pink for a girl.
A new princess for Denison’s 38th
The day has come! Everyone was excited considering that Denison’s birthday served as a mini reunion, too. Upon seeing each other, their respective clothes revealed that they are rooting for a baby boy, though some in blue were left with no choice because of the lack of pink clothes. Meanwhile, Denison and I opted to wear beige to signify our neutrality and acceptance of whatever the baby’s gender may be.
Our Good Friday went longer than expected because of the props and kitchen work. Come 6:30 PM, we gathered for the reveal, blowing of Denison’s birthday cake, and a semi boodle fight.
As we lined up ourselves in front of the camera, everything became a blur and I just kept hearing their chants on the baby’s gender. On three, we bit our respective cupcakes and viola, there were blue and pink fillings inside mine haha so I just knew that it was a girl when the rest of them shouted. It is a girl! A mini Mikee! A princess for Denison’s birthday!
After all, no matter what the gender is, we were all after a healthy and a normal baby.

The proposal
After the gender reveal, we went on to celebrate and sing happy birthday for Denison. He was urging me to deliver a speech after but why would I??? Haha I got confused and triggered until he stopped, knelt down and opened a red box with a ring in front of me. We were just both speechless and laughing until I asked him to put it on my left ring finger. And the rest is history.
Since we’ve been planning to get married and have been treating each other as husband and wife, I wasn’t really expecting a proposal anymore. Nonetheless, what he did was exactly what I wanted–in private and in front of our family members. 🖤

Mikee x
